To Members, Volunteers, Farm Safety Coordinators, Business Sponsors and
Notice of Discontinuance of Safety Programs
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank our members,
farms safety coordinators, business sponsors and donors for the important
roles and contributions you have each made to farm safety and injury
prevention within Manitoba Farmers with Disabilities.
Over the years, our membership built the base structure of our organization,
volunteers took hours of training to give farm safety and injury prevention
presentations, and our farm safety coordinators attended numerous Safety Day
events to reach thousands of school age children in communities throughout
Westman, Pembina Valley, Parkland, and Central regions. All of this could
not be done without the financial support of our members, donors, and
business sponsors, for which we are truly grateful!
The impact of all your work in promoting the farm safety message helped
reach many farm families, rural communities, schools, and farm injury
prevention events. It has been through your work and support that injured
and disabled farmers have found hope, and in some cases went carried on a
successful farm business. Many of our coordinators have found that the
children they taught years ago, now have their children hearing the same
message at their local Safety Days. This is a legacy to be proud of!
It is with deep regret, that we give notice that our organizationís programs
are being discontinued. At the MFWD Annual General Meeting held on October
27, 2019, the motion was carried; that due to the significant reduction
in membership and volunteers, our farm safety programs will be discontinued
as of January 1, 2020.
MFWD is now in the process of selling the corporation assets and once this
is completed, the Board will distribute these funds in accordance with our
By-Laws, to one or more charitable organizations of like-minded work. The
members voted unanimously to have the Board set up endowments to support
Manitoba farm safety education and farm injury prevention initiatives and to
create a legacy for future generations.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish to thank you for your commitment
and dedication to the Safe Farm Safe Families programs.
With our sincere appreciation,
Dawn Minne, Chair
